Upon turning into the driveway for this course and seeing the giant orange dinosaur we figured we’d be in for the type of cheesy miniature golf that is a signature of Route 1. Instead, we found a nice course that used some creative ideas of which we hadn’t seen before.
The most noticeable of these ideas was the “automatic hole-in-one.” There are three holes on this course (11,12,14) which offer these options. Each one has a special little something to shoot for which give you an automatic hole-in-one without actually getting the ball into the cup. They are moderate in difficulty and add an extra little bit of fun to the course. The other glimpse of creativity comes in some of the general hole designs. The use of bowling pins and balls on one hole was not something we’ve seen. Also on one of the multi-level holes, the hole on the top level was approx. 1.5 times the size of the normal hole to make it easier to get to the second level without frustration. This course also used the black rubber mats as a teeing area, but they were bolted to the ground to prevent them from slipping and being moved all over the place.
About the only thing we didn’t like about the course was the
metal cups, but again that’s just a personal pet peeve. It’s a good course to play and one of the few
within a reasonable driving time from downtown
